An image of the new Dye DSR Pro paintball marker with the words "First Look/Review."

Dye Paintball has had their skin in the game for a really long time. With over two decades of innovative paintball technology under their belt, the DSR platform was released in 2017. Players all over the world have fallen in love with how soft and smooth the DSR shoots, and improvements were made throughout the years. That's where the DSR Pro enters. But this begs the question; what's new with the DSR Pro over the previous models?

Another DSR release? Pretty sure this gun has been 'released' as many times as Skyrim has.

Jokes aside, no matter how correct this may be, the DSR Pro ultimately doesn't change anything about the engine. Well, except for the fact that you get the IM Pro Kit pre-installed already. If you're wondering what that is, it's a massive overall upgrade for the DSR paintball gun and it's about $90. On top of the IM Pro Kit, you're also getting the Dye UL-I Barrel system. This will contain a barrel back, barrel front, and a .688 UL-I Insert. Buying these barrel components separately will set you back about $155.

So you're getting factory upgrades and that's it?

That would be correct. The DSR Pro also has a new body cut that is very simple, but looks really good. I really do think that Dye has a great product with the DSR, and are really following the whole 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mantra.

Closing Remarks

This paintball gun is arguably a timeless piece of gear; getting updates, upgrades, and being released all over again (which means no shortage of spare parts). I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing, especially because of incredibly good these guns shoot, but I am a little bummed that there aren't more inserts included. At the end of the day though, players love the DSR, DSR+, DSR+ Icon, and the DSR Pro continues this lineage. If you're looking to upgrade your paintball gun, or maybe you're newer to speedball, then I think the DSR Pro is the perfect choice for you.
