How to Install the DLX Luxe IDOL Accent Kit

The DLX Luxe IDOL is an absolutely gorgeous paintball gun, but sometimes it's nice to spice it up a little bit. Every color of the Luxe IDOL comes in a solid color, but DLX Technologies has released the IDOL Accent Kit in 6 (so far) colors. This gives you the opportunity to make your IDOL stand out a bit more, or to match your teams color scheme.

Anything I should know before I install the kit?

Absolutely. Admittedly speaking, I do wish I was better with certain pieces, parts, etc, but there are some small parts involved in this process. Make sure you DO NOT lose them! With that said, the parts you are replacing will be the barrel back, foregrip/regulator sleeve, eye covers, feedneck lever (hardest part to replace), trigger, back cap, and metal backstrap.

The easy parts.

Installing the barrel back, eye covers, and metal backstrap are the easiest. They're pretty cut and dry as the parts you get in the kit simply replace the original part. If you know how to take these off, then you can easily put them back on. These parts also require zero tools.

The slightly more difficult parts (tools needed)

The trigger, back cap, and fore grip are slightly harder to install as you do need some tools to do so, but it's still super easy.

The trigger is held in place by a single screw. Find the Allen key you need, and take that screw out. Once the screw is out, lift the trigger up from the bottom and pull it out of the frame. It should slide right out. Now get your accent kit's trigger and do these steps backwards.

The back cap is also held in by a singular screw. Lift up on the back cap and remove the IDOL's bolt system. Flip it over and you should see a screw that holds the back cap in place. Grab the Allen key that you need and loosen the back cap until you can pull it off. Now grab the new back cap and simply screw it on.

The fore grip uses a large Allen key, and requires two parts to become loosened. The black piece on the bottom of the fore grip needs to be taken out, and then there's a purple piece inside that is the regulator itself. Use the same Allen key to loosen it, and the fore grip/regulator sleeve should come right off after about a quarter turn. Now place your new regulator sleeve on the IDOL, and do these steps backwards to secure your new fore grip in place.

The feedneck lever...and the headache that comes with it.

This last piece is the trickiest one to replace, as it has a couple of tiny parts that you can easily lose. Here's a list to help you keep track of what you need to put it all back together:

  1. Feedneck lever
  2. The smallest C-Clip known to man (it's not, but it feels that way)
  3. Bumper/spacer
  4. Thumbwheel
  5. Pin
  6. The piece that the thumbwheel screws onto for tightening.

Make sure you have ALL OF THESE parts when you disassemble it.

The easiest place to start is the thumbwheel. Take that off. Once you do that, try to get the C-Clip off. That holds the pin in place. Once the C-Clip is removed, you should be able to take the pin out, which then allows you to take the piece that the thumbwheel screws onto out as well. You don't need to take the bumper out, but it's never a bad idea to make sure you still have it. Once this is done, you'll have to go backwards, and the hardest part is going to be getting that C-Clip back in. I struggled with it for about 5 minutes before I finally got it back on. I'm sure there's a tool for it, but it wasn't at my disposal at the time. When that C-Clip snaps back in place, reassembling the feedneck is super easy. Once you get everything put back together, you're done!

Closing Remarks

Since the TM40 didn't get the accent kits, it's really cool to see DLX do this for the IDOL. Overall the process is simple until you get to the feedneck lever. I do wish they made this piece a bit more simpler with less parts to worry about, but hey, it looks good when everything is installed. Because of this, it would be nice to see an extra C-Clip in the spare parts box of the IDOL, just in case you lose it installing one of these kits, or if you're taking your gun apart for a deep cleaning. So if anyone from DLX is reading this....it's food for thought (and send your boy a Luxe IDOL or Luxe ICE). The color options available (at this time) are polish purple, polish blue, polish red, polish pewter, polish gold, and dust white.
